Frequently asked questions
Programmable consent, federated access and how Consenta works for patients, organisations and data buyers.
What is programmable consent in healthcare?+
Programmable consent is a technical mechanism that makes patient consent to health data use executable and auditable in real time, rather than managed through static paperwork. It enables patients to grant, modify and revoke consent for specific data uses, with every decision recorded in a cryptographically signed audit trail.
How does federated health data access protect patient privacy?+
Federated health data access means analytical compute is brought to the data rather than moving the data to the researcher. Patient data never leaves its original environment, eliminating the re-identification and transfer risk associated with conventional data licensing.
What does the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 mean for patient consent?+
The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 expands the legal mechanisms for sharing patient data in the public interest. It does not provide patients with a technical mechanism to consent to or revoke specific data uses. Programmable consent infrastructure closes this gap.
What is dynamic consent?+
Dynamic consent lets patients granularly control, adjust and withdraw how their anonymised health data is used at any time, per purpose, rather than giving a single one-time blanket approval.
Does Consenta require blockchain?+
No. Consenta is blockchain-optional. It can run fully off-chain with secure SHA-256 integrity records, and when blockchain is enabled it uses cost-efficient batched Merkle-root anchoring. Only hashes are anchored; no personal or health data is ever placed on a ledger.
How do patients benefit from their data?+
When anonymised datasets are licensed by approved researchers, revenue is split transparently between patients, the contributing organisation and the platform, according to configurable terms.
Is Consenta GDPR and HIPAA compliant?+
Consenta is designed to align with both GDPR and HIPAA. Health data is de-identified using k-anonymity techniques before it can be shared, consent is recorded and auditable, and patients can withdraw consent at any time.
What is a federated data platform?+
A federated data platform lets approved researchers analyse anonymised datasets without raw patient data leaving its source organisation. Consenta combines this federated model with programmable patient consent and transparent revenue sharing.
Who is Consenta for?+
Consenta serves patients who want control over and a share of the value of their health data, healthcare organisations that want to share data ethically and compliantly, and researchers who need consented, anonymised, high-quality health datasets.
Programmable consent, enforced at the point of use
Consenta is sovereign data infrastructure for health data: consent that is recorded, enforced, revocable and auditable, with federated access so data stays where it is. Join the waitlist as a patient, organisation or data buyer, or contact the team at [email protected].
